When Matt first got in touch with me, it was because he wanted to hiked to Grinnell glacier to propose to his girlfriend, Sam. Obviously, I was ecstatic because as we all know, I LIVE for hiking sessions with my couples!
I don't understand why more photographers don't offer them. If you think about it, I'm literally getting paid to hike ;)
Sadly, however, Matt wanted to pop the question in glacier on June 11th, which as many of us know is still snowy season here in Montana and sadly Glacier National Park had to close down the Grinnell glacier hiking trail due to a reason avalanche slide that blocked the trail. Luckily, no damage was done to anything other than our itinerary.
The beauty of glacier is that... well, all of glacier is beautiful. So when we decided to pivot and get these two engaged at Iceberg lake instead, no one had any reason to complain!
I brought along my trusty partner, loving boyfriend and behind-the-scenes documentarian Aaron, who not only kept me company on the walk up but was sure to point out every wildflower that we passed by. Sam and Matt were hiking behind us and got started about 30 minutes after we did, so we had plenty of time to enjoy our hike and spend some time together: something we rarely get to do because of our summer work schedules!

(Isn't he just a cutie?)
If you have never hiked to Iceberg lake, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's best if you try to get as early of a start as possible to beat the crowds and the heat, or if you go closer to evening/sunset time. As modeled here by my assistant Aaron, you should always carry bear spray when hiking in the park and don't go out unprepared.
Growing up in Montana and just miles away from the entrance to Glacier National Park my mom always had a saying:
If you're going to die out in the wilderness, your dateline episode better not have any reason to say that "She was unprepared."
These are wise words that more tourists should consider before planning their GNP vacation!
The trail bridge over Iceberg Creek had not been put up yet by the time we reached the lake, but we quickly improvised and got set up for the proposal. Strategically, I sent Aaron to wait by the Iceberg Creek and to gently hint Matt about where the proposal would need to take place.
Needless to say, everything worked out exactly the way it was supposed to and the photos speak for themselves.
I feel like this one goes without saying, but she said yes!
Huge congratulations to these two! and a big thanks for hiking with me :)
